BQ76PL455A-Q1: What is the total propagation delay if Nx BMS modules (BQ76PL455A-Q1 ) connected in daisy chain

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hello,

What is the total delay seen by Microcontroller via UART for monitoring cell voltages if the signal travels from top battery stack BMS module to bottom stack BMS module through daisy chain AC differential link (COMM & FAULT bus)?

In our application we use 2 LCU boards (BQ76PL455A-Q1), each is capable of monitoring 12 battery cells. Are there any limitations by connecting 2x BQ76PL455A-Q1 (2 separate boards)in daisy chain through COMM and FAULT bus for scalability

Thanks,

Nagamani

  • Hi Nagamani,

This is entirely dependent on the baud rate, number of devices, any programmed delays, number of bytes being read, etc.

The device is meant to be scaled and stacked, up to 16 devices. This can be done on one pcb or several as you wish. One thing to consider is that multiple IC's on the same PCB will be more robust to system noise, since the COMMs traces should be very short. If on separate PCBs, the cables will be much longer and act as antennas, make EMI design considerations more important
