Recover from bad senc, bq20z80

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z80

Hi.  I programmed my bq20z80evm-001 with the senc file that came on the CD that came with it (bq20z80_102.senc).  This must not have been the right version because now the bq Evaluation Software does not auto-detect it (detects it as 1717_17_17) and I can't do much with it.  Is there anyway to recover from this condition?  Thanks.

Charlie

  • Here is what you can try:

    1. After you program the senc file, did you put the device back to FW mode with MAC cmd 0x08?

    2. Make sure you have the latest EVSW. The latest released FW is v1.10, but the software should also detect v1.02. You can download the latest EVSW from the z80 EVM web page: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/bq20z80evm-001.html#Support%20Software

    3. Double check the hardware. If you're using TI's EVM, check the Vcc testpoint and make sure you see 2.5V. Check the comm. single on a scope.

    4. If there is no hardware issue, but for any reason, the EVSW is still not auto-detecting the device, you can manually select the latest FW version of bq20z80 from the list to force the software to continue to load. Now check to see if the software is communicating to the device.

BTW, the latest FW v1.10 is available the z80 produce web page. You may want to use the latest version instead of v1.02.

  • Thanks for the follow-up.  I followed your instructions and it is working now.  I think I needed to put it back in the right mode as you outlined in step 1.  Thanks again for your help.
