BQ34110: Dashboard, Programing gauge

Part Number: BQ34110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, GPCCEDV, BQSTUDIO

Hi,

Please answer my query.3073.qdscg.zip

I am working with NiMh 10 cells batteries using bq34110 gauge. I have calibrated the gauge and also performed a qualifying discharge thereby the gauge estimated the capacity.

I am now trying to program the gauge, so when I go to the programming window and click the programming button a window pops up saying programming device and goes.

Initially I was receiving no acknowledge from device for execute fW

Later I clicked again  on execute FW button and got the message  "Programming-Priority sequence already in progress".

1. Is this message a valid message if yes then what should be the next step?

2. Could you please look into my gg files and dashboard and qualifying discharge files and advise me if there are any issues ?

Regards,

Jofina Jijin

  • Hi Jofina,

Thank you for all of the information you sent. This really helps in the debug process!

From the logs and your description it appears that the device is not ack'ing.

The image was also very helpful - you're currently using the EV2300 V. 3.1C. If you have an EV2400 or EV2300 running updated firmware, please use those devices for communication instead.

This EV2300 running v.3.1c needs to be updated. The update instructions can be found here: e2e.ti.com/.../3225.EV2300FWUpdaterUnprogDev.zip

Also, looking over your gg.csv file, most of your gauge parameters are not set. Once the communication issue is fixed by updating your EV2300 or by using an EV2400, please create the 6 logs required for the GPCCEDV tool found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/gpccedv

The GPC Cycle and GPCPackager tabs found in bqStudio are helpful additions that assist in creating these logs.

Please then program your gauge with the EDV parameters output by the tool.

Also, looking over your gg.csv file, many of your device settings are not currently updated for your cells. Most parameters in this gauge are based around the single cell value and are found in the datasheet of your cell. For example, most NiMH cells have a nominal voltage of 1200 mV with a max voltage of 1500 mV. Most of the gauge defaults are set for 4200 max voltage 3700 nominal voltage Lithium Ion cells. When reviewing your parameters, if you see values that are over 1500 mV (or look at is they don't apply for your battery), please make sure to look them up in the TRM (found here: http://www.ti.com/lit/sluubf7 ) and set the values accordingly.

Also, your operation configuration register will need to be modified for NiMH. Unlike Lithium cells, Delta T/dt and Negative Delta Voltage/dt are used for charge termination.

    As currently configured:
    "Configuration","Registers","Operation Config A","8201","hex"

Please refer to section 2.1.1 of the TRM linked above for information on how to configure this register.

There is quite a bit to do, but thank you again for all of the information you included.

If you have any other questions, please let me know!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
  • Hi Bryan,

Thank you so much for all the information. You are very helpful.

If I have any further query I will ask again.

Bryan is it possible if I can get a direct contact (email) with you as you already know the present situation of the gauge and it becomes more easy for us to ask further questions.
