BQ76920: CHG/DSG relays

Part Number: BQ76920

Can the FET drivers for CHG and DSG be used instead to switch mechanical relays?  Should I include some sort of current-limiting resistors?

Thanks!

  • Hi Scott,
The CHG and DSG outputs are intended for low current as is typically shown by the FET gate and large resistor. Short circuit current for the outputs is about 2 mA. Relays are unusual with a battery due to the current requirements, but could be used. A separate relay driver may be desired. Check the response time for a short circuit event since relays are sometimes considered slow.
