BQ25570: MSP and bq25570

Part Number: BQ25570
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25504, TPS62740

Hello

We want to use MSP 430 for MPPT with BQ25570. what pins to be used to do so and how we can achieve this? Please help with solution or any link which describes the query!

Thank You

  • Shubham,

If you are looking to just power up the MSP430, you should be able to adjust the VOUT of the DC-DC converter using the excel sheet from the tools folder.

Are you looking to change the behavior of the MPPT?

    thanks,

    gautham

  • Dear Gautham,

Our project include usage of multisource energy harvesting, 1.Piezo 2.Solar 3. Electromagnetic

I m combining the DC power from all three sources and giving it to BQ25570, now I wish to maximize the overall power of the circuit and therefore wish to use MPPT algorithms! To do so I intend to use msp430, for running algorithm. How should I achieve this?

  • Shubham,

Then I would recommend looking at the BQ25504 which has options to adjust the MPPT setting.

Also you could use a discrete DC-DC such as TPS62740 for low Iq.

    regards,

    gautham

  • Hello Gautam,
I think even the bq25570 has option to set it's MPPT right? Using voltage divider Roc1,Roc2,Roc3 network to set set the Vref?
Then I can track the maximum power from device and then track on its MPPT?
  • Shubham,

Yes you are correct. You could have a pulldown FET with a resistor to switch the resistor but do note that the leakage will require to make the resistors stronger and the resistance of the FET will be in series with the resistor you are placing(not a major concern)
