BQ34Z100-G1: Reg In by external regulator

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

The datasheet walks through how to create your own little LDO for the REG IN pin (which can take between 2.7-4.2V)...
If I have a battery powered system (5S2P, 18.5V nominal) and a 3.3V Buck regulator already in the system, is there any issue with simply using the 3.3V Buck?

I feel this would be more power efficient than burning power across a zener diode and resistor as the datasheet and EVM show.

  • Hi Sam,

As long as it isn't too noisy and is above the drop out of the 2.5 V internal LDO, it should work. The zener diode and resistor is shown as an example of a low cost solution.

Please let me know how your design turns out!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
