TPS23525: Reverse polarity protection in TPS23525 chip.

Part Number: TPS23525
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2350

I would like to how to provide reverse polarity protection in TPS23525 chip. There is no details in datasheet regarding reverse polarity protection . IN my application only one input will be available at a time in Two -48V inputs . I need to provide the reverse polarity protection for the two -48V inputs . I am confused between TPS2350 and TPS23525 , in TPS23525 seems to new version of TPS2350, but in TPS23525 there is no information or details about Reverse polarity protection. Please advise me on this requirement.

I will respond by Monday. Sorry for the delay.

  • Yuvaraj,

The TPS2350 is a voltage selector, using the highest voltage input (with 400mv hysteresis). It is recommended you use the newer TPS23525, which is true reverse current detect ORing control and has voltage rating of 200v vs 100v so it is much better in meeting transients (easier to contain the surge with TVSs that are bi-directional). Reverse voltage hook up protection is inherent in the TPS23525 so you don't have to do anything other than use appropriate voltage rated FETs and bidirectional TVSs per fig 12 diagram.

  • Hi Brian, Thank you for your clear explanation . Already sent this request to TI in technical support, some how I was not happy about the response. But this one really made me happy. When I check for TPS23525, I was informed, it is not having reverse polarity protection. Thanks a lot.
