BQ29209 and BQ51050B: Help to choose suitable coils for wireless charge

Part Number: BQ29209
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51050B,

Hi all
Im doing project using TI chips for battery wireless charge.
In my project need 3.3V power supply so I used 2x18650 Li-Ion battery (3200mAhx2 - parallel conection) .
I researched on TI products and support forum to make this schematic, but i cant find an info to choose suitable wireless coil for wireless charge IC,expect the manual of dev kit of BQ51050B.
Please help me to choose it.
Thanks.

  • Hi Alone173,

I can't wait to hear more about this project, unfortunately, the bq29209 was marked in the title as the part for this post. I am moving this post so an expert on the bq51050B may respond. Thanks!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
  • Hello
The right RX Wireless Power Coils will depend on the power out, size and coil to coil distance.
It is a good idea to start with the EVM RX coil, Vishay IWAS-4832FF-50 or IWAS4832FFEB9R7J50. This is a 48mm X 32mm coil about a 10uH L.
The coil will need to be tuned once installed in your case and the L changes, see section 9.2.1.2.1 in data sheet.
  • Hi Bill Johns
Really I intend use BQ51050B to charge for 2 18650 li-ion batt with current charge about 1A. Maybe those coils you suggested are fine for this case?
    Thanks
  • Using the bq51050B to charge a 1A out you will need a large coil with low DCR. Above listed coils will work. In the design try to keep the coil to coil distance low for higher efficiency and better thermal performance.
