TPS92641: Can TPS92641 drive 2 LED connected in series with 35A?

Hello guys,

One of our customers is looking for TI LED driver which can driver two LED connected in series with 30A~35A as a projector light source. I found that TPS92641 was used in PMP8016 application note. Can TPS92641 drive it with FET and inductor re-considering?

Hello Kazuya,

Yes, it can do 30A to 35A. PMP8016 may be able to do it as is since the inductor saturation current rating is 56A. It might get hot however as it may not have enough heat sinking for the increased current. But the TPS92641 can do it with good FET and inductor selection.

Do you know any device which can drive higher current (~40A for 2 LED in series) than TPS92641?

Hello Kazuya,

The TPS92640/41 are the highest current capable devices we have. They can do in excess of 40A if designed well. There is also the option of adding an external gate driver for the low side FET to reduce the VCC current required for higher output currents.
