TPS723: TPS72325 - Stability for low current/no load condition

Part Number: TPS723

Hello,

We have a customer who is interested in knowing the stability of output current for the TPS72325.

In the datasheet for the TPS71745, there is verbiage regarding the load condition characteristics for this device, while the datasheet for the TPS72325 says nothing about this.

While the two devices are similar, and both have ratings for 0A minimum output current. Our customer needs to know about the the stability of a low current or no load condition.

Could someone please advise whether the TPS72325 shares this characteristic of voltage regulation with zero output current?

Thanks,

  • Hi Gabriel,

As technology has improved, no load stability has become an expectation for LDOs rather than a feature.  As a result, few LDO datasheets will call out no load stability.

One of the quickest ways to determine if an LDO is a good fit for a given application is to perform worst case transient tests and observe the LDO's response.  As you can see in Figure 16, our transient goes from no load to full load without any significant ringing.  This is an indication of stability.

    Very Respectfully,

    Ryan
