Hi,

I am looking for a prioritized power path controller similar to the LTC4418 by linear technologies.

The circuit is given two separate and different voltage inputs, say V1 = 32 and V2 = 36.
The circuit is to prioritize V1 if the voltage is within the set range ( 30V - 34V for example).
If out of range, it should switch to V2 (given that V2 is within range).
When V1 is back within range it should switch back to V1.

Circuit must be capable of withstanding 38V - 40V

Welcome to E2E! Thanks for the question.

Please take a look at this app note. Page 14 contains a configuration that would support this high-voltage operation. You can set under-voltage and over-voltage thresholds, seamless switchover, and control the slew rates in this configuration.

It seems that at my required voltage the current is limited to 2A. I forgot to mention that I need 200W at 32V - so that’s around 6A...

Any ideas?

Hi Patrick, you're probably looking for an OR-ing FET controller for this high power application. I've looped in another member of our team to look at this.

Hi Arthur,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately (unless I’m mistaken) with OR-Ing the higher voltage is the one output. In my case my main supply is 32v whilst my auxiliary is 36v.

Hi Patrick,

Depending on the OR-ing configuration, you'll still be able to switch between supplies even if the voltage levels are different. Our Applications Engineer covering OR-ing FET controllers is currently on travel, but he'll respond within the next few days.

We are also looking for prioritized power path controller similar to LTC4418. Our requirement is ~10A and parts suggested in above shared app note will not help.

Could you please share some suitable part which support continuous current of 8A and peak of 10A.

We have already used tps25942a in REVA design and works well up to 5A but the only limitation is it does not support our current requirement.

Hi

For >6A priority power mux with two chip solution: LM5050-1 and LM5060 is a good choice.

In total, power mux design requires 2x LM5050-1 and 1x LM5060.
