BQ78350: BQ78350 I am inquiring about the setting of the overcurrent operation.

Part Number: BQ78350

Dear TI,

BQ78350 I am inquiring about the setting of the overcurrent operation.
When setting the overcurrent specification, test the specification by putting the specification in the OCD part of the protection item
Only MAX -32768 will be set for this part.
We are currently asking about how to test 35A, which is about 35A.
As a result of checking the data sheet, it seems that you can set the specifications in the AOLD section.
Please check the difference between RSNS = 0 and RSNS = 1.
Thank you.

  • Hi BJ,
The gauge knows current from its calibrated value read from the CC. Above the 32768 scaling must be used. Protections by the bq78350 gauge will be based on that calibrated current.
The AOLD and ASCD thresholds are settings passed on to the monitor for hardware protection, they should be calculated with the sense resistor and RSNS bit as you indicate. See the bq769x0 data sheet and/or the bq78350-R1 technical reference manual sections 3.6.1 and 3.6.2
  • Dear TI,

    Thank you for your answer.

We will ask you additional questions as below.

    1. Current over current specification is about 35A. Is there a way to test it at around 35A?
=> At the time of current over current specification setting, specification is put into OCD part of protection item and test is in progress.
Only MAX '32768mA(about 32A)'  will be set for this part.

    2. Is it possible to change 1mA unit to 10mA unit now?

  • Hi BJ,
Apparently current scaling with the IPSCALE does not work with the bq78350-R1, you could divide by 2 or perhaps by 10 as you propose. You may encounter a limit of the calibration value. See the post: e2e.ti.com/.../633364
