BQ40Z60EVM-578: Clarification of discrepancies between documentation and other concerns

Part Number: BQ40Z60EVM-578

Hi,

There is a discrepancy between the data sheet and TRM in regards to the current sensing resistor. The data sheet says to use a 1 miliOhm resistor, while the TRM says to not use anything below 5miliOhms. Which one should I go by?

Could you clarify the functionality and operation of the SMBUS?

Also, with concerns about the output capacitor selection, how critical is the lower bound on loop stability frequency? And is the Q4 circuit element necessary?

Thanks

  • Hi Michele,

Thank you for the question - I will prepare a response before the close of business on Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
  • Hi Michele,

The 5 mOhm resistors will be impacted less by noise than the 1mOhm. The LSB is based upon the full scale range and will also be impacted. Please follow the guidelines of the TRM. I have informed the systems team of the discrepancy.

SMBus is similar to I2C, but there are some important differences. For more information on SMBus, please refer to: www.ti.com/.../slua475.pdf

With respect to output capacitor selection and Q4, please follow the guidelines set by the reference schematic in the datasheet.

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
