TPS63051: What is the required input specification of TPS63051 DC-DC Booster

Part Number: TPS63051
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV62568

Hello,

We are working on of the Project in which we need battery backup but we have very less space in mechanical, so we are using a small coin cell(CR2016 Li-on 3.6V, 16mAh).

In the project, we require 3.3V and 500mA of current, does this TPS63051 is suitable for our application or not?

Or please suggest us suitable solution for this project.

Thanks,

Hiren

  • Hello Hiren,

As mentioned in the first page of the datasheet the TPS63051 is capable of delivering 0.5A continuous output current for Vin>=2.5 V and Vout=3.3V
    What is the target application?
  • Hello Sabrina,

Our target application consists of Wifi, BLE and GPS and we require the Backup for 2-3 mins after disconnection from the mains supply and so the current requirement increases to an extent.

Our Average current consumption is 130mAh.

Also Wi-Fi requires the 500mA for the continous working (it doesn't draws that much current but it require it to stay on)

But the coin cell is able to deliver only 20mA continuous current max.

So, I was worring weather TPS63051 booster will be suitable for our application or not?

If not, then please suggest the god option for our application.

    Thanks,

    Hiren

  • Hi Hiren,

I am a little confused the WIFI requires 500mA but the battery can deliver only 20 mA ? do you have a system block diagram of the circuit with the voltages and currents on it? (If you do not wish to share it on a public forum you could use private messaging)
Could you also share the battery datasheet?
What is your input voltage range (during normal operation and back up)?
  • Hi Hiren,

As I have not heard back from you, Were you able to find a solution?
  • Hello Sabrina,

    Thanks for our concern.

I found my solution on the Workbench it self. I came to know that the Boost converter will be able to increase/Boost the Voltage but at the mean time the current of the circuit drop to great extent initially. Due to this this BOOST converter (TPS63051) will not fit in my application.

So, finally i decided to go with Battery with 3.8 V (higher rating coin cell )and Buck converter TLV62568.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hiren Kumbahre
