BQ40Z60: What are the two different Over Current thresholds for Charge and Discharge?

Part Number: BQ40Z60

I'm setting up the the BQ40Z60 and trying to figure out why there are 2 charge (OOC1 and OCC2) and 2 discharge (OCD1 and OCCD) over current threshold settings?

  • Hi Tony,

The device has two independent overcurrent in discharge protections that can be set to different current and delay thresholds to accommodate different load behaviors. These protections trigger Alerts that may be read by another MCU. These are primary protections and do not trigger permanent failure. For example, you may have a device that has a heavy and a light load profile where OCC1 is set to 2500 mA and OCC2 is set to 250 mA. If an external MCU knows the heavy load profile is engaged, it can be programmed not to be concerned with an alert from OCC2 when 250 mA threshold is crossed and OCC2 alerts, but to only take action when instead when OCC1 is crossed and OCC1 alerts. These are primary protections and are alerts - not permanent failure protections that disable the device.

OCC1 - Overcurrent in Charge Protection Threshold 1
OCC2 - Overcurrent in Charge Protection Threshold 2

OCD1 - Overcurrent in Discharge Protection Threshold 1
OCD2 - Overcurrent in Discharge Protection Threshold 2

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
  • Thanks, that makes sense. Tony
