BQ25606: USB2.0 or adapter input detection

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: BQ25606

Hi

The following use is assumed.

Two type of input sources: PC(USB2.0), Adapter
PC(USB2.0) : 5V/500mA(max)
Adapter : 5V/1A(max)
DPM function is not used.
Battery is Li-ion 1cell.

I think bq25606 can support it in the following configuration.
Could you please check it out?

If it is for PC(USB2.0) use, SDP would be detected by D+/D- detection function automatically and ILIM is set as 500mA.
If it is not for PC use,  ILIM pin can be set as 500mA and ICHG as 1A.

Is it correct configuration? Please give me your view?

BestRegards

  • Hey na na,

The bq25606 is a fine part if you use the D+/D- detection.

Bear in mind that common adapters detect as a DCP type input source. As such, on the bq25606, the DCP detection defaults the input current limit to 2.4A. For an SDP (standard downstream USB ports), the detection will yield an automatic 500mA input current limit.

For the charger to use the ILIM pin resistor setting, the D+/D- would have to be floating.
