TPS1H100-Q1: Off state open load diagnostics

Part Number: TPS1H100-Q1

Hello,

I am using  TPS1H100-Q1 HSD for 3.5A load. I would like to have off state open load diagnostic function in circuit.

1. Can I remove Rpu in the below circuit? After removing still HSD will detect open load? What will be demerits if Rpu is removed?

2. If Rpu is kept permanently tied to Vbat instead of using switch what will be demerits of this?

  • Hello,

1- For open load detection in off state, the pull up resistor is necessary. The open load in off state detection is based on voltage difference between supply voltage Vs and output voltage VOUT, Vs - Vout < Vol,off. Removing the pull-up resistor, the condition may not be satisfied and the open load in off state may not be detected.
2- Rpu is permanently connected to supply voltage causes the current to increase up to additional 50uA. This is because of the internal circuit connected to VOUT.
