BQ76PL455EVM: Connection to the battery.

Part Number: BQ76PL455EVM

I'm trying to figure out the correct wiring diagram for this board to the batteries.

There are multiples BAT0 and BAT0S and also mulitple BAT16. The user guide states to connect them at the bottom and top of the cells, but I'm not sure I understand correctly.   Can you please provide me with a wiring diagram ?

I need to know what cables go to cell 0 and cell 16 along with all the other cables

  • I'm also trying to figure out how to wire this board to batteries. On page 16 of the user guide, Table 8 says that BAT0 connects to the negative terminal of cell 1 and BAT16 to the positive terminal of cell 16. However, on page 12 in section 5.2.1, there is a note that seems to indicate that BAT0 should connect to the top of the stack and BAT16 should connect to the bottom, so I'm confused.
  • Hi Molly,

BAT0 is the "power" connection, while BAT0S is the "sense" connection for the negative terminal. This helps reduce the I*R drop flowing through the sense lines and gives more accurate voltage measurements. In the end, they are all connected to the negative terminal of your cell module.

Same goes for BAT16 and any PWR connections, except they go to the positive terminal of your highest cell. They distribute the current across multiple wires, reducing I*R drop.

I believe that page 12 is referring to "stacking" multiple modules. For example, if you have a 32S battery pack you will need two pl455 modules. The "upper" module monitoring cells 17-32 electrically floats on top of the "lower" module. In this case, TOP of the "lower" module will also be at the same potential as "GND" of the upper module.
