BQ34Z100-G1: Problem with Learning cycle of bq34z100g1

Part Number: BQ34Z100-G1

Hello,

I am running a learning cycle for 13S1P Lithium ion battery pack (3350mAh each cell), but there is no update in Qmax, Update status or SOC?

Charging was done at C/2 rate and Discharge performed at C/5 rate. During discharge OCVTAKEN did not update.

Please find attached Log file and gg file below.

Can you please review my gg file and  log file and know me the problem?

Waiting for your response.

  • Hi Ritul,

Thank you for the files - I will provide an update by close of business on Friday.

    Sincerely,

  • Hi Bryan,

Thanks for your reply. Waiting for your update.

I would also like to present my problem regarding learning cycle in below points.

    1. The battery configuration is 13S1P Li ion with 3350 mAh capacity for each cell. Even when I enter design capacity as 3350 mAh, Full charge capacity never becomes equal to design capacity over a period of charge and discharge cycle.

    2. Quit current plays an important role for OCVTAKEN flag to go high and low.

    Datasheet says -

The Quit Current is used as part of the Impedance Track algorithm to determine when the bq34z100-G1 enters
RELAX mode from a current flowing mode in either the charge direction or the discharge direction. The value of
Quit Current is set to a default value that should be above the standby current of the host system.
Either of the following criteria must be met to enter RELAX mode:
    1. |AverageCurrent()| < |Quit Current| for Dsg Relax Time
    2. |AverageCurrent()| > |Quit Current| for Chg Relax Time

According to above criteria:: During Discharge, my Average current is constant at C/5 ( 560mA approx). And my quit current is specified in the range of 80-150 mA. In this condition, how will the device go under RELAX mode? Also, during charging my Average current will go below the Quit current during the end of Charge condition, how will the device go under RELAX mode? So, I am not understanding how to select the value of Quit current.

    3. When I am Charging my battery, CHG flag does not get HIGH.

    4. Can you please let me, what all parameters do I need to specifically modify according to my battery?

Also, please find attached LOG file for charge discharge cycle 2nd time.5037.Desktop.rar

  • Hi,

I am waiting for your update regarding battery learning cycle problem.

  • Hi Ritul,

I apologize for the delay in response. Please try reducing your discharge rate for the learning cycle to C/7.

Please set FC set % = -1. Your taper current should be ~ C/100 of your device.

Most of the default values should be close for your cells.

If the issue persists after these modifications, please upload the log file and corresponding gg.csv so I may compare with the earlier results.

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,
    Bryan Kahler
  • Hi Bryan,

I have conducted a long learning cycle with 2 times Charging and discharging with relax time. It took 20 hours for it.

But, there is no change in

    1. Updated status: It remains 0x04

    2. VOK is never SET.

    3. OCVTAKEN does not occur at Discharge time.

    4. FCC never comes to 3350 mAh (My design capacity)

    5. SOC % incorrect.

It has been a more than 40 days that I am struggling with Learning cycle update. Is it possible that you take this problem seriously and help me solve it as soon as possible?

I have attached complete log of the cycle with Auto exported gg files.

Please check out the files and let me know how can we solve the issue.

Because now I am losing hope in this IC.

    Waiting for your quick response.

    Thanks
