BQ78350-R1: AFEC Triggered

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930

Dear Sir, Madam,

Attached are the GG and SREC files of the battery pack using BQ78350-r1 and BQ76930.

We checked the GG file and found that AFEC was triggered (PF status) and AFER is PF alert.

The customer is measuring leakage current of the battery pack and is applying 264V.

The voltage application and measurement are done many times.

We are waiting for further information of their testing conditions.

Is it possible to investigate the cause of the AFEC PF status and AFER PF alert?

We want to understand how this mechanism works and what kind of error is being detected by the IC to trigger these faults.

Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you very much.20180209 gg.xls

  • Hi Hong,
AFEC is AFE communication failure. AFER is a comparison failure between the expected register values and the read register values. If communication is unstable one or both errors may occur. Check for pull ups the I2C lines between the bq78350-r1 and bq76930 and also check for crosstalk. Be sure the customer has not implemented another host to access the bus, while it can be a debug tool the bq78350-R1 does not share the bus and bus collisions can cause these errors.
The text in you post reads 264V which is above the rating of the bq76930. Be sure clamping and filtering are adequate in the design to prevent high voltages from reaching the IC pins. If high voltages reach the ICs they could be damaged.
