BQ25895: Reverse current protection on PMID pin

Part Number: BQ25895

Hi,

Kindly let me know the maximum voltage tolerable on the PMID.

I understand that PMID is a power output pin, but I still want to know if 9V is applied on PMID pin when boost mode is not used, how will it affect the battery charger.

Regards,

Abhilash G

  • Abhilash,

VBUS is connected to PMID through the Q1 FET.  PMID has the same voltage rating as VBUS so will not be damaged by applying 9V.  However, in charge mode, the charger uses Q1 to measure input current.  If power is applied at PMID instead of VBUS, the charger must rely on its "last resort" cycle-by-cycle current limiting or thermal limiting to protect itself.  Therefore, using PMID as the main power input is not recommended.
