TPS65070 and OMAP-L138 RTC Supply

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138, TPS65070

Hello,

Both the TPS65070 datasheet (page 72) and the "Powering Freon with TPS65070" application note (SLVA371A, page 4) show the OMAP-L138 RTC_CVDD LDO powered from the TPS65070's AVDD6 output.

- Why AVDD6 and not SYS?
- What is the voltage of AVDD6?

Thanks.

Typ. the RTC needs to be powerd all the time. AVDD6 is an always on rail, while SYS can be powered down.

AVDD6 is an internal suply voltage that is for supply of the IC if SYS is turned of. Basically it is a second power path that is always on. A load of max. 1mA can be connected to AVDD6. The voltage on AVDD6 is not regulated, but clapmed below 7V. If the battery is the only connected supply AVDD6 = VBAT. If AC or USB supply is connected the AVDD6 voltage is clamped below 7V. This voltage is always present. Basically it could be used to supply a RTC if the load current is below 1mA.
