BQ78PL114 - PowerPump - Cell balancing sequence

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL114

Hi!

I have a question regarding the sequence of the cell balancing of the bq78PL114. I'm not sure, if I understood the functionality correctly.

The application report SLUA524A on page 6 (last paragraph) says: "... PowerPump cell balancing would be active as long as two or more cells are greater than 10mV apart." My question is now:
As example, there are five cells within a battery module which is at rest (no load or charge current is flowing). Cells 1, 2, 3 and 4 has all the same cell voltage of 3.50volts; cell 5 has a cell voltage of 3.55volt. Due to exceeding the balancing threshold of e.g. 10mV between cell 5 and cell 4, the cell balancing starts and cell 4 get charged by cell 5. After a short time cell 4 exceeds the balancing threshold of 10mV between cell 4 and cell 3, so cell number 4 starts to charge cell number 3. When the differences of the cell voltages dropping below the balancing threshol, the PowerPump balancing stops and the cell stack is well balanced?

Does the PowerPump balancing work in such an order?

Thanks a lot!

Regards, Andy
