What type of application will this go into? What battery and how much charging current? Which adapter and input current limit would you use?

Currently, you can use the EVM user guide (www.ti.com/.../sluu462) for a schematic example and use the datasheet (www.ti.com/.../bq24171.pdf) for any specification explanation.
