BQ24160: recovery operation from short circuit limit

Part Number: BQ24160

Dear all,

Could you teach me the advantage point to recovery from short circuit limit after recovery time automatically?

I think that it is safer to stay stopped until the short is removed.

Best regards,

  • Hi Yamamoto-san,

The charger by itself has no way of knowing when the short is removed. Therefore, the "hiccup" mode is used to both detect short removal and restart regulation.
  • Hello Jeff,

Thank you for your answer. I have understand the role of hiccup mode.

By the way, my customer say that below,
"If the short is continued, do any heat problem or any failure happen?".

What do you think about this?

I think the heat problem has no matter because deglitch time is very short.
On the other hand, some failue problem will happen because IC continue to receive current stress.
And I will recommend them to stop current path by other circuit.
    Is my idea correct?

    Best regards,
  • Hello TI team,

    Please reply my post?
I would like to know how to address continuous short condition because I think this IC will break by short stress.
Or...Don't I need to think to address? Will not continuous short condition make trouble to IC?

    Best regards,
  • The pulse duration and frequency of the short circuit protection was designed to prevent over stress to the IC silicon and heat.
