Both bq40z50-r1 and -r2 support authentication using SHA-1. This is a one-time operation by the host to identify the original (OEM) device (battery), correct? It appears, however, that SHA-1 is no longer recommended for several years. SHA-2 or SHA-3 are the replacements. Do these devices support any of the newer protocols?

Any detailed technical notes on implementing SHA-1 (2,3?) with these gauge ICs besides the Technical References?

Hi Evgeniy,
the bq40z50 devices support the SHA-1 authentication. SHA1 is indeed less secure than SHA2 & ECC for instance, and Google published a paper last year on the 1st SHA1 collision as a theoretical exercise (others were talking about it before 2017...).
the bq40z50 devices do not support other authentication mechanism than SHA1.

Thank you! I also got an App Report slua389a from a different source about implementing SHA-1/HMAC authentication.
