TPS22953: About thermal pad connection

Hi,

Please let me know about TPS22953 thermal pad connection.
Does this device work when thermal pad is set as the floating?
Is there a need to connect thermal pad to GND for reasons other than heat dissipation characteristics?

    Hi Yusuke,

    Leaving the thermal pad floating will still allow the device to function normally, but the GND pin on the device must still be connected. Note that not connecting the thermal pad to the PCB will increase the thetaJA number and reduce the maximum current allowed through the device. Is a manufacturing limitation preventing you from connecting the thermal pad to the PCB?
