LM3478 falls at 2A and protects itself.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3478, BQ24610, LM25117

1. I am ready to use 12V power access, through the boost chip LM3478 to 16.8V, to the charging chip BQ24610. But in the process of testing LM3478, I needed a current of 3A, but I found that LM3478 was self protecting at 2A and began to fall. What is the reason for this?

2. I am going to make a portable products, before 24V buck to 12V, but MOSFET found serious fever, so then to change the 12V access, to boost the program, if there is any other better chip recommended, can finish my entire circuit?

Thank you

  • 1. It sounds like you hit the peak current limit. You should reduce the current sense resistor to allow higher current. Also make sure your inductor can handle the peak current at max load without saturation.
    2. Not clear about your question. Do you have two difference source, one is 16.8V that you can boost and the other 24V that you can buck down, to 12V? If this is the case, the LM3478 can do the boost. If you want to use a buck for your 24V input, consider LM25117, or you need to post a separate thread titled to buck converter, and the post will be directed to the right engineer.
