TPS92692: Dimming quesitons

Part Number: TPS92692

Hello,

Per some questions as below. Thank you.

  1. LED lighting can be adjusted by PWM and IADJ. How to control the dimming when both input are available?
  2. Will IADJ input be converted to PWM signal to control the brightness of LED?
  3. Has 256 step Dimming of TPS92692? Example for  600mA/256=2.34375 mA/step could meet the specification?

  • Hello Patrick,

The PWM and IADJ are independent. You can use them at the same time if you like. For somebody that can't get the full range they need from one or the other the most common way is to PWM dim down to a certain level and then to start reducing IADJ to get further dimming.

IADJ is not converted to a PWM signal. It adjusts what the LED current is during the ON cycle (when PWM dimming) or steady state (no PWM dimming). The 692 does have an analog to PWM function however if that is desired, see the datasheet for details.

256 steps may be possible, but it depends on the PWM frequency. To get that much resolution you will likely need to be at 250Hz or below. It would likely be a little easier if you use a combination of PWM and IADJ to extend the range.

    Regards,
