UCC27714: UCC27714 mosfet driver: Why schottky between GS of the MOSFET?

Part Number: UCC27714

This is a screenshot from UCC27714 demo that TI provides, why we connects BAT54 which is a schottky between the G and S of the MOSFET?

Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Ted,

Generally, these diodes are used to prevent the gate-source of the power mosfet from seeing too much voltage and becoming damaged. there is a gate oxide layer that has a maximum voltage rating, and if you exceed that, the oxide will break down and the mosfet will be permanently damaged.

For the UCC27714, we recommended these diodes in various cases. Please see section "8.2.2.9 LO and HO Overshoot and Undershoot" of the d/s.
