UCC29910A: Used for Buck LED Driver

Part Number: UCC29910A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28063A, UCC28061, UCC28810

Hi, team.

Can UCC29910A be used as the Buck type LED driver?

 AC100-240Vin

 ~50Vout/3A Constant Current

Are there other suitable products?

Best Regards,

  • Hi,

The UCC29910A has been designed for the pfc stage in AC adapter type applications where the input voltage range is 90Vac to 264Vac and the output voltage is 84Vdc. It is most likely unsuitable for LED driver type applications since:

    1. It does not provide an isolated output.
Most LED lighting applications are required to meet the isolations requirements of EN60950 or UL1310
    2. The voltage of the LED string needs to be around 80V and most LED driver applications have a variable voltage requirement with a constant current output
    3. The agency approval ratings for LED lighting are quite stringent when it comes to current harmonics, power factor and THD.
A buck type pfc topology is unlikely to meet these requirements

Many LED driver applications in the sub 150W power range utilize the flyback topology.
TI has reference designs that use the interleaved UCC28061 and UCC28063A
    Please review

For lower power level you could use the UCC28810 in a flyback application.

    This is shown in PMP2698

    Regards
