WEBENCH® Tools/BQ34Z100EVM: How to set full charge capacity of battery of bq34z100-EVM

Part Number: BQ34Z100EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, GPCCHEM

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello Everyone,

I connected 9v PbA Type Battery , iam able to get voltage value in bqstudio. but iam not able to How to test or update the full charge capacity of battery . and also not able to verify the battery chemical type.

please guide me reggarding this,

  • As I mentioned in other posts, you need to program the battery info to the gauge then run a learning cycle using bqStudio to log the time, current, voltage and temp. Use our online GPC tool to identify the chemistry ID that best match your battery.

If you just want to see FCC update based on your current setting, just send a reset command from bqStudio and it will update.
  • HI Damian Lewis, what is learning cycle , where can i find it . iam very new to battery related concept.
  • Hi Manoj,

Here's the link to our chem ID matching GPC tool
    http://www.ti.com/tool/GPCCHEM

Here's the instruction for collecting and submitting the data to our GPC tool

  • Hi Damian Lewis,

i tested the simple pba type battery of 9v.,with using bqstudio a log file created as with using that file to calculate chemical id.

    i uploaded config.txt ,roomtemp_rel_dis_rel.csv to chemid tool .

but ti community forwared a mail with following message.

The following errors were reported by the calculation engine:
Error: Wrong data format start could not be found make sure file has no multy-line header and is coma or tab separated values. Name: roomtemp_rel_dis_rel.csv

iam unable to upload csv file . so pasted the content below of csv file

  • Hi Manoj,
Did you put commas or tabs between each value on each row?
Also, your discharge current should be negative, not positive.
  • is there any ready device to test learning cycle in bq34z100-evm

  • No there is none. You have to do it manually using your cells, power supply and electronic load. You can automate the process using labview.
    thanks
    Onyx
  • Hello Onyx Ahiakwo , what is labview , how can i automate the process
  • Hi Manoj,
Labview is a common platform in the industry for creating GUIs and test automation. For example, you could use a USB-GPIB adapter to control your electronic load and power supply to charge and discharge your battery.
  • hello dMax , can you give detailed explanation about this process.
  • Hi Manoj,
Judging from your other posts, I think you are on the right track.
First, using bqStudio you should configure the gauge to match your battery and system settings.
Second, you can log a discharge with bqStudio and use the GPCCHEM tool to find the best chemID which matches your cell.
Then you can use the Chemistry tab in bqStudio to program that chemID (battery profile) into your gauge.
Then you can either do a learning cycle or perform a C/7 (for lead-acid) discharge and upload the log to GPCRA to get the optimized Qmax and Ra values.
