LM25085: Short Input Pulse 50...55V @ 15...25ns

Dear Team,

our customer would like to know if the LM25085 can withstand (no damage) a short input voltage pulse of 50 V or 55 V for 15 - 25ns.

The data sheet states Vmax = 45V, but I assume that this is meant for DC.

Hello Martin,

Unfortunately the Abs max specifies all conditions unless otherwise stated. Th LM5085 will be suitable for 55V in (transients).

Hi David,

thanks for the answer. Ok, I will advice to use the LM5085.

What would be the risk of having a repeated exposure to those pulses. Would it be a slow degradation or would it rather damage parts of the components?

Hello Martin,

If the device is exposed to any voltage greater than the ans max the result could be slow degradation, or it could fail in an instant? Passive components around the part are unlikely to fail instantly as a direct result of 55V for 25ns.
