bq34110: TRM does not detail bootrom mode use/need/behavior/requirement

Part Number: BQ34110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z110, EV2400

The TRM merely references bootrom mode but does not tell why it is needed, how to get into it, how to get out, etc.

The previous version of the bq (bq34z110) required bootrom mode in order to write the data flash.

Is it required for this bq?

I see bq studio has a ENTER_ROM button. I clicked it with the EV2400 connected to a bq34110EVM.

Now it seems I can't communicate to the EVM anymore. How do I restore normal comms?

  • Hi Mark,

    1. - What is BootROM mode?

When firmware is no longer executing. You go to this mode if you want to program the .srec file.

How do you get into BOOTROM mode?

As you did you click the ENTER_ROM button. However, that is not necessary as you can go into the programming tab and find your .srec file and click program FW and the device will automatically enter into BOOTROM mode and program the FW and then it will automatically get out of BOOTROM mode.

    2. How to get out of BOOTROM mode?

Since you have already entered into BOOTROM mode via the button command, then you can exit but going to the programming tab and just click 'Execute FW'. OR you can power cycle the device. (turn off and turn on the device).

    Thanks

    Miguel
