BQ Studio Chemistry

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, BQ40Z50-R2

We have a shared PC running BQ Studio with chemistry update 369. I set my battery to use the desired chem ID (0404).

I checked my own copy of BQ studio and it was using chemistry update 576. For some reason, this doesn't have the 0404 chemistry installed. So, I updated it to 616. It's not in that update either.

I downloaded the latest copy of BQ Studio but (not surprisingly) that uses chemistry update 616 too. However the UI of BQ Studio is also now a total mess with shortcuts duplicated and so many more options than normal.

Two questions:

  • How can I sort out the UI (a plain uninstall/re-install doesn't help)
  • Why can I not use chemistry 0404/why is it not available? There doesn't seem to be an alternative chemistry ID that's suitable.

Thanks

  • I've uninstalled and deleted the BQStudio folder - that seems to resolve both problems. It seems the BQ Studio installer for 1.3.51.1 comes with chemistry 472 and it doesn't install that (presumably because there is a newer one).
However it now doesn't recognise the device I'm using (BQ40z50-R2). I can update that manually, if I can find that file.

The question remains as to why that chemistry Id is not available in the latest chemistry update, and also why does the latest version of BQStudio not support the BQ40z50-R2 by default?

    Am I missing something?
  • The plot thickens... I ran the BQ40z50-R2 firmware udpater so it would recognise my device, and now, the chemistry (0404) has gone again!
  • bqStudio will not typically have the latest chemistry database included when you install it.
Please download the bqStudio chemistry update .zip file from here:
    www.ti.com/.../GASGAUGECHEM-SW
Use the contents to replace the files here then relaunch:
    C:\ti\BatteryManagementStudio\chemistry
  • Thanks for the reply.

If I choose gauge 4500_1_06-bq40z50R1 I can see chemistry 0404 in the BQStudio chemistry list
If I choose gauge 4500_2_08-bq40z50R2 or 4500_2_11-bq40z50R2, I cannot see 0404 in BQStudio chemistry list

Does this mean that chemistry definition is only suitable for the R1 version or it it an error in what's being displayed?

FYI, my chemistry file is currently issue 472 and this problem isn't resolved by using the latest 616
  • Hi David,
Currently when using bq40z50-R2, bqStudio will only display chemIDs which can be used with the TurboMode2 feature and 404 is not one of them.
We plan to release an updated version bqStudio which will give you the option to display non-TM2 chemIDs for bq40z50-R2, but I can't say when it will be available. Until then, we will program the chemID into a default bq40z50-R2 srec for you and get it to you.
By the way, which version of bq40z50-R2 are you using? We recommend using the latest, v2.11, instead of the one that is shipped on the ICs (v2.08).
  • Hi David,

Please find the file attached which has chemID404bq40z50R2_v2_11_ID0404.zip
