TPS54531: How to shut down at a user specified overcurrent threshold

Part Number: TPS54531

Hello team,

Please see below question from the customer:

The ideal behavior of the PSU in our application is to have the PSU shut down upon exceeding an output current threshold.  The TPS54531 doesn't do this by default...  So, to prevent constant overheating and thermal cycling under fault conditions, we have been investigating current and/or temperature monitoring of the PSU to generate an external fault signal that can shut the supply down via the EN pin.  Off-the-shelf solutions cost almost as much as the PSU itself.  Also, it would be best if the protection circuit would latch the fault condition, keeping the TPS54531 off until mains power has been removed and restored.

Is this a problem you have run into before?  Are there any clever tricks to make the TPS54531 shut down at a user specified overcurrent threshold?
