WEBENCH® Tools/LM5085: Efficiency Drop

Hello everyone,

I wonder why the efficiency is dropping drastically at the output current between 3.5 to 5 A.

The figure shows the efficiency vs current graph generated through Webench, the complete Webench design report is in the attachment.

Please explain why this problem is occurring and what is the solution.

Hi,

This could be because at that current, you are at VIN = 12V and VOUT = 11V and you probably have some losses that the output cannot be maintained during dropout condition

Losses??? what losses it could be that causes efficiency to drop down to zero, is there any soulution for that?
