BQ27426: SDA, SCL and GPOUT bias resistors

Part Number: BQ27426

Hi,

We want to place this gauge, along with the protection IC, on a very small PCB imbedded in the 211mAh cell. The DS suggests 1MEGohm resistors to GND on the SCL and SDA I2C lines, as well as implying that the GPOUT should not be left floating. All of these lines are properly terminated when the cell is connected to the system, but will be unterminated when the cell is assembled and shipped for integration into the product.

Adding these resistors to this small board will cause the board to need to be larger. Is it necessary or can these three signals be left floating until connected to the system?

Thanks,

Mark
