bq24610 not switching to adapter power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610, BQ24610EVM, BQ24617

Hi,

The the bq24610 in application and notice something odd switching between battery and adapter. in this particular case, the adapter voltage was 28V and the batteries at approx 25V. yet the system remained on battery and didn't switch over to adapter.  would be in this mode for many seconds (30-60).  from the documentation, it switches to adapter when VCC > SRN.  any thoughts?  thanks -Boothby

  • I checked this on a BQ24610EVM and the transition is fine and no big delay except for the dead-time between AC/BAT FET.

    ACOV can also turn off ACFET and prevent the switching from battery to adapter.

    Please check the IC mark. OAS is bq24610 (32V OVP); OFB is bq24617 (26V OVP)

  • It worked fine for me on the bench too.  however, this issue occurs when in the application.  It is the 24610 and measured 28v adapter, 25v battery and it didn't switch immediately.  Almost as if it were in sleep mode.  Temperature was 45C.  It didn't do this repeatedly either. just on occation.

  • what's difference of the EVM and your application circuit? can you provide a schematic?

    Please show a measurement waveform of VCC pin and SRN when you caught the issue.

    VCC is lower than adapter voltage at normal condition (voltage drop on input FET and resistor to VCC-pin) to enter sleep mode;

    and at hot-plug-in condition, the voltage spike might push it higher than ACOV.
