BQ78350-R1: BQ78350-R1 VS BQ34110

Part Number: BQ78350-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100, , BQ76940, BQ78350

Dear All:

I want to monitor the 15s Battery capacity, and I have used the BQ76940 as the AFE,   can you suggest which IC chip is more suitable for this application , BQ34Z100  or BQ78350-R1 ? Thanks!

  • Hi Big Bill,
If using the bq76940 to monitor the individual cells, it will need a controller such as the bq78350-R1 or a MCU. The bq78350-R1 or MCU would setup the operating conditions and if ever needed, do fault recovery. The bq78350-R1 will do CEDV gauging, of course something could be written in the MCU.
The bq34z100 is an impedance track gauge, but it lacks the ability to control the bq76940. It can provide gauging information for the system but does not know individual cell voltages or control protection. If using the bq34z100 for gauging you will need to protect and balance cells as needed with another circuit, one option would be the bq76940 and a MCU. The bq78350 should be able to be used as a controller for the bq76940 if desired, if used in this way its gauging should be set to avoid FET actions.
