LM5150-Q1: Operation under specific confition

Hi

Is it possible to use LM 5150 Q 1 even in the following condition?

1. INPUT:1.5V, OUTPUT:6.3V/2A continuous

2. INPUT:1.5V , OUTPUT:6.8V/5A < 10msec

BestRegards

  • I am afraid it is not possible for two reasons: (1) the LM5150 is specially designed for automotive start-stop or e-call applications, in which the circuit has >5V on the output during sleep mode, and only when the input voltage drops it automatically starts up. Once startup, it can continue operation even when its input can drop to 1.5V. (2) it only has four Vout settings and 6.3V is not an option.

For your 1.5Vin 6.8V/5A, the input dc current is >20A, which is really challenging to do with one device. You may consider a boost controller like LM3478, but you need to use a small boost converter (TPS61220 or similar) to provide the required bias voltage for the LM3478 to operate.
  • Hi Youhao-san,

Let me check in one more condition.
    INPUT:1.5V, OUTPUT:6.8V/2A
    Is it possible?

  • 2A load still requires an input current of ~9A, which exceeds our boost converter's limit. So, you may still need to consider the combination of the boost controller for the main boost stage and a small boost converter for bias supply.
