BQ34110: Lithium Phosphate

Part Number: BQ34110
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50-R1, BQ34Z100-G1, BQ40Z60

I am in the process of selection a fuel gauge for  a Lithium Phosphate battery pack.

The battery pack is 2S2P (26 mm cell Lithium Phosphate iron 3.2 V and 3.4 Ah),  the 2S2P battery pack will be 6.4V and 6.4 Ah.

This battery pack will power a device with Step motor which produce a  dynamic current profile (spike) from 100 mA to 2.5 A.

I went to Ti website for the selection of fuel gauge and narrowing down to the following 4 selections:

BQ34110

BQ40Z50-R1

BQ34Z100-G1

BQ40Z60

May be you provide insight to navigate the selection, want to seek your expertise to make sure that  I am not missing key parameters due to cell chemistry dependency.

Only BQ34110 mention Coulomb count

For this chemistry, which is better for accuracy Coulomb count or Impedance tracking etc..?

  • Hi Dan,
Impedance tracking gauge has higher accuracy. bq34z100-G1 and bq34110 both support Lithium Phosphate iron. bq34110 is CEDV battery gauge with end of service determination. If your care about is accuracy I suggest you use bq34z100-G1 which is Impedance tracking gauge.

    Regards,
