BQ27542-G1: which reference schematic to use?

My customer is designing in the BQ27542-g1, and they found two very similar reference schematics to use. One in the datasheet, and one in a reference design:

So is the question here which one to use? I would recommend using the first which is what is in the data sheet.

Thanks for the quick reply onyx.

Any chance you can elaborate on the performance/feature difference between the two and why the reference design does not use datasheet recommendation?

Hi Brian,

- The data sheet schematic has a secondary level protector MM3511, the other design doesn't.
- The data sheet schematic uses zeners for esd protection, the reference design uses caps.

I didn't design the reference design so i don't know why it doesn't use the data sheet recommendation
