BQ25898: Is MaxCharge available on the bq25898?

Part Number: BQ25898
I would like to use the bq25898 chip but I DO NOT want the Maxcharge (9V, 12V) feature. I have the PSEL pin grounded on the bq25898. Will the VBUS from the adapter always be 5V even if the adapter is MaxCharge capable?
  • Maxcharge feature is for bq25898D only. bq25898 directly takes the USB PHY device output to decide whether the input is USB host or charging port. Please refer to p19 of the d/s for the details. Thanks!

  • LIfeng,

bq25898 uses PSEL instead of D+/D- pin to do input detection and set input current limit. The bq25898D has D+/D- and does input detection unless you disable all adapter detection, including MaxCharge, HVDCP and USB BC 1.2 in register 2 bit. If you still want USB BC 1.2 detection (SDP, CDP, DCP), you leave Auto_Input Detection enabled and disable both MaxCharge and HVDCP detection in register 2, which we keep VIN at 5V.
