TPS61500: Drive 6 watt LED channel - use 61500 or possibly can use much smaller tps61165 -- power dissipation capability

the ti thermal modelling tool did not seem to recognize and load either of these parts.

have a series string of cree 801 red leds powered by 3.7 lipoly (2400mAh , 1C rated discharge capable)

im attaching the word converted version of a pdf schematic into this but it looks not so good

really like to use that smaller part....but will use the 61500 if the small part is too "iffy" in your opinion despite best thermal via layout i could arrange

    Sorry for the inconvenient when using this forum. The good news is your attachment is uploaded successfully and I could read it. For your application, roughly calculation and consider 85% efficiency, there is around 0.4W power dissipation on chip itself, so the junction temp increasing from top case would be 14C. If you keep the case temperature lower than 100C, it should be ok. You cannot use TPS61165, since the peak MOSFET current will excess the current limit.

    Got it and yes the 61500 part is really the only viable path to take give the power dissipation requirement.
