The Advanced Information datasheet has a part number breakdown chart that describes the letter H in TPS1HA08 as representing 12-V HSS. It also describes is an alternative T option for 24-V HSS. Does this mean a version for 24V systems will soon be available?

Hello,
The only available at this time is the 12V version. T version is for 24V but not sure about availability.

I need to switch 24V to a 1.5A (possibly 3A in the future) load (not inductive) that needs to allow 5x the current for 15 ms. UL will test it at 50 degrees C. I was thinking I would use the micro to monitor the current and switch off when the varying current limits and times were reached.

This looks good, but I forgot to mention that minimal voltage drop at max current is critical. Anything with Ron less than 20 milliohms?

The better option is to use TPS4H160 by paralleling 4 channels and the typical On-resistance is divided by 4. That makes the equivalent On-resistance 40mOhms. We are releasing an app note about paralleling channels.

Yes, but that is a pretty big package to only get down to 40 mohms. That is why I was attracted to the 8 mohms of the TPS1HA08. I thought I saw that the TPS1HA08 worked with 3 - 36V input but I can't find it now. Could I use the TPS1HA08 with 24v? What problems would I have?

TPS1HA08 should work at 24V but all qualifications tests such as short to ground were done up to 18V. It is not guaranteed to survive short circuit test at 24V because no qualification was done.

I imagine the problem with a short to ground is power dissipation in the IC over time with a continuous short. If the micro monitors the current and turns off the switch and then waits and retries at a low duty cycle, does that avoid the problem?
