BQ78350-R1: BQ78350 - R1

Part Number: BQ78350-R1

Hello to Ti support team ,

    I have question according to balance transistor toggle for test-ability , There is Note , not send this command when connected to cells .

 1. What is the setup to the 1N-13P  connection you suggest for proper check balance transistors with toggle balance command ?  , (series resistors imitator or something else ?) .

  • Hi Alexander,
    Since it is a test it is not a monitored operation. You would not want to imbalance your cells with test.
    We don't have a specific recommendation, it would depend on how you want to observe it.
    If you have multiple low impedance sources you could observe the current from those sources. You could also look at the voltages across resistors on the boards. When using a large value resistor divider the simulated cell voltage will collapse, certainly it depends on the balance current you are using. Using a 200 ohm resistor divider as on the EVM the voltages collapse substantially. As your divider resistors become smaller (source impedance is lower) the movement becomes smaller but the power in the divider gets higher. Adding capacitance across each resistor in the divider helps also but the balancing period is 250ms.
    Hope these thoughts help you select a method.
  • Thanks for you answer ,

    Does it means that command 0X001B should open all my balance odd cells fets on my 13S configuration for period of 250msec ON , 750msec OFF ?

  • Hi Alexander,
    You might see the app note on the scheduler. Balancing will be on 70% of the 250 ms scheduler interval or 175 ms.
    The command 0x1B actually does not use the cell map as stated in the technical reference manual. It will balance odd cells on the first transmission, this will balance the adjacent cells 8&9 and 12&13 in your 13s configuration. This is not generally recommended but these higher cells have higher voltage tolerance and should not exceed abs max if you control the voltage during test. Also if you use external cell balancing, control your cell voltages to check both external balancing FETs if tested in this manner.
  • Hello to Ti team ,

    I tested function 0X1B on my 13S configuration PCB .

    1. First time 0X1B --> ballance toggle of 1,3,5,7,10,11,12,13 .
    2. Second time I enter 0X1B--> balance toggle of 2,4,6,8,13 .

    3. Please Check my tested data with bq internal design .
    4. Is there any other test command for external balance test ?
    5. What is the potential risk to the bq when during first command 0X1B 10,11,12,13 turn on together ?
    6. balance for cell num 9 does not operate during 0X1B ?

    Note : All 13 balance transistor proper operate on regular regime (tested) .
