TPS7A49: Improved version with tighter tolerance

Hi,

We use the TPS7A4901 and TPS7A3001 in some designs. Are there any plans to have pin compatible devices with a tighter tolerance e.g. 1% instead of the 2.5%?
We often want to increase the supply voltage of OPAMP's to be able to use more range but other devices on the same supply rail have tight maximum supply voltage constraints. So to be able to increase the supply voltage we would need to have a tighter tolerance band around the set point.

Hi Patrick,

0.1% programming resistors can help. I do the same when using the LM2674 in our products...

Hi Pruf,

There aren't any parts that are pin compatible that would extend the voltage range of TPS7A49. There is a new part the TPS7A39, which has a tighter accuracy on the positive rail that would be able to replace both the TPS7A49 and TPS7A30 in future designs.

As Kai mentioned, you can also use 0.1% resistors to help increase accuracy as opposed to the standard 1%. Here is an app note talking about how resistors effect the output voltage www.ti.com/.../slva423.pdf

Thanks for your answer. TPS7A30 is interesting although it has +/-3% accuracy on the negative rail. In our design we need to use 0.1% resistors. But still we have to calculate with a total tolerance of around +/-2.7%. +/-1% overall accuracy of the device would help a lot.

Hi Patrick,

if precision is so important for you, why not adjusting the output volttage by the help of a cermet trimmer?
