RE: TPS61500-EVAL Board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61500, TPS40211

I am looking to prototype a LED backlight system that has 10 LEDs in series and 20 strings total. In summary, I need an LED driver that can provide 35V at 1A from an available 12V supply.

The TPS61500 device appears to have that capability. The TPS61500EVAl PCB is not set up for that type of load. The question I have is there any reason I cannot reconfigure the

TPS61500EVAl PCB to support my protoype work?

  • Your power requirements are just outside what the TPS61500 can provide.  Doing a quick power balance, assuming 100% efficiency, 35V*1A/12V=2.9A input current.  The minimum current limit for the TPS61500 is 3.0A so after factoring in efficiency and inductor ripple current, you will exceed the TPS61500 capability.  I suggest the TPS40211.
