TPS25200: Can one use the TPS25200 in a negative supply

Part Number: TPS25200

Hello TPS25200 gurus!

Can the TPS25200 be used in the attached PDF drawing?  And if not - what would you recommend.  The load current is low, <100mA, but we need to protect both the power rails feeding the Piezo Bridge from short circuits (the load cell is at the end of a cable that could be damaged).

Thanks!

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E.

Gating the GND path like the one you mentioned in the PDF is possible because the device does not see any violation on the potential difference b/n Vin to device gnd or Vout to device gnd.

However, Gating the -ve rail (for ex -5V at input) is not possible. This case is similar to applying reverse voltage at the device input and causes device to damage. Please see below figure and let me know if it did not make sense.

How is load termination at the Piezo Bridge end?

    Best Regards,

    Rakesh

  • The output(s) of the load cell (Piezo Bridge) will be fed into an Amplifier / ADC signal chain.
  • Hi Mark,

The schematic circuit shown in the left section should work. Please let me know if anything needs to verified on EVM for you.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
